Fear

What will happen and what may I secure?
What can I make solid that will endure?
I shoulder the burden to craft my name,
So others will want me, security through fame.

What will next year hold,
Silver or bronze, dross or gold?
Where will I be and what will I do?
Will I be stuck in stresses, old or new?

Stretched thin, I sin.
I give way to the flesh within.
Why this thin and threadbare man?
Why this rat-race raggedly ran?

Fear.
It is clear.
I am afraid.
And unmade.

Fear not, says Father.
Why all this fuss and bother?
Find rest in my shelter,
So I went and knelt there.

At the foot of the cross where Pilgrim went,
I cried out, too, all earthly treasures spent.
In the face of my Savior I lost all my fear.
Oh what blessed closeness when we draw near!

In Christ alone am I secure,
In Christ alone will I endure.
All burdens fall at Jesus' name.
I will live my days for Jesus' fame!

The Declaration of Independence dogmatically bases all rights on the fact that God created all men equal; and it is right; for if they were not created equal, they were certainly evolved unequal. There is no basis for democracy except in a dogma about the divine origin of man. (GK Chesterton)
