Links on Obergefell

Today was a historic day. The Supreme Court of the United States decided in a 5-4 decision that our Constitution guarantees same-sex couples the right to marry. This marks a huge, rapid shift in our culture, and it may be a long time before we know exactly what this will mean for us as Christians living in the United States.

Prayer is in order, now as always. Let us pray that our nation's disillusionment with this doomed experiment will come sooner rather than later. Let us pray that, even as our nation continues to stray, that we will continue to have the freedom to read the Bible, to worship God in accordance with our conscience and convictions, that we will continue to be able to meet together, and that we can continue to proclaim the truth, in pulpits and Christian schools and in the public square. Pray for our suffering brothers and sisters around the world who don't enjoy these freedoms. Christian martyrdom is very real. Pray that we will increasingly cling to God in Christ as our great hope, instead of placing our hope in political power. Pray that we would be bold. Pray that we would be loving. Pray that we would be wise. Pray that God would awaken our nation, however long it would take, to a renewed love and reverence for God's holy name.

We pray these things in the Name of the one who has been given all authority in heaven and on earth - Jesus Christ. Matthew 28:18.

I have many thoughts that I would like to share, but I will refrain for now. Instead, I want to provide some links for you:

Mohler's Response - Al Mohler is the President at Southern Seminary. This is good and brief, and if you only read one of these, this might should be your choice.

Same Sex Marriage and the Future - Russell Moore writes this blog post. He is the president of the Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. He does a good job detailing some of the Gospel ramifications of this decision.

What You Should Know About the Supreme Court's Same Sex Marriage Ruling - Another article from the Gospel Coalition. This is a good quick article focusing more on the legal side of what the Court actually decided.

Lamenting the Calamity - An article from John Piper. He writes: "We weep over our sins. We don't celebrate them."

Top 10 Quotes From the Dissenting Justices - self explanatory. Scalia is brilliant. He is a Catholic who is really a believer. I think he made the liberal media's jaw drop one time when in an interview he was discussing Satan as if he were actually real. Imagine that.

Obergefell v. Hodges - The opinion itself. Read if you dare.

NY Times on Georgia's First Gay Marriage

Hyperlink Surprise - Because we know God wins in the end, and there's not much worse than a bunch of gloomy Christians who forget to smile.

Soli Deo gloria!
